On the main drag through Columbia Falls from Glacier to Whitefish, this establishment has withstood the test of time. If you're the meat and potatoes type, this is a place you will want to visit. The classic comfort meals are being served to taste good, and that they do (with little regard for your ticker and physical health)! Your mental health will greatly improve though. Because this is the place to come with family and friends for a slow cooked, good time. Just about all of the meats being served on the menu are great. Really. Take a look at any of the other reviews for details on the dishes. They are pretty spot on. Be prepared for a wait because this place has a reputation, plenty of people know about it. Those that are eating are in no hurry to leave, so settle in with a drink and a few good stories to share before settling in for the long haul. If you're a vegetarian, there is nothing for you here, so keep driving. You are more likely to find a spoonful of mashed potatoes tossed at you by neighboring patrons if you inquire too loudly. The other complaint is that the restaurant is tired and old looking. The colors of the paint and wood beams all seem to blend together like too much slow cooked meat and beer. The old cards stuck on the ceiling from magic tricks eons ago need to go. Besides the need for a cleanup, the old recipes being used seem to have what it takes to keep it going through the next millennium.

Delicious!!! Fry Bread was amazing. Meat tender and tasty. Even the beans were good. I took half of it home for later. Had a mud slide to drink and it was very good.

The food was delicious!!! The pot roast sandwich was to die for. My husband had the trout and he said it was extremely good. The best part was his coconut meringue pie. He said it was just like his mom used to make. The waitress was very friendly and very nice. We will definitely be back!!!

We came here on the tail-end of our Yellowstone & Glacier trip. I was looking for a restaurant that would provide a "Montana experience," and this place was it! I ordered: Bloody Mary: So good! Came with Jalapeno & Peppercorn Rye from the Glacier distillery. I loved the rye so much that I had to go to O'Briens down the street and buy a bottle. Only $7! Spare Ribs w/Fixings: ~$15.99 the ribs were pretty solid! great BBQ rub, the baked beans were some of the best i've had, the fry bread was out of this world, and the coleslaw was solid. They were out of red potatoes so I didn't get to try those. Huge portion. Grilled Shrimp Cesar Salad: ~$12. Coming from California (and being a salad snob) I wasn't impressed, but I wasn't expecting great salad here to begin with. If you are looking for a healthy option this is NOT it. The shrimp was good, and the dressing was decent but it was heavy. The portion was huge. The service was great! We had a very young and sweet waitress who helped us order and answered all our million questions. She helped me figure out where to by the Glacier Rye since I couldn't make it to the distillery. The wait was only about ten minutes for a table and the food came out within 15 minutes. I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a Montana experience post-hike at Glacier. I will be going back next time i'm out that way.

Well being from the South, I was looking for good barbecue that could compare to Louisiana. I just say this place has great food and great atmosphere. The baby back ribs were delicious! The missing 3 stars comes from service. I literally went my whole meal with no drink. When she finally came to bring the bill I got the chance to ask for a refill. I just feel for as much as I paid for my meal, the waitress should come around in the middle of dinner and offer help.

I hadn't been here since I was a kid so I was excited to try it now that I am living back in the valley. The food was awesome! I ordered the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs which comes with beans, cole slaw, potatoes, and fry bread. SO much food. At first glance I thought it was very odd that fry bread was on my plate but IT JUST WORKS. That little bit of sweet is exactly what you need when eating BBQ. And I've eaten my share of fry bread and this is good. Our server was new (she reminded us 5 times) so service was pretty scattered but all in all we were happy. The wait on the food was a while but of course because it was a Friday in the summer. We expected this. The atmosphere... this is the part I just am not sure about. When I go back, I will ask to sit on the patio especially during these 90 degree days that produce gorgeous evenings. We were sat in the back in this little banquet room which was LOUD and the lighting felt like I was back at school and not a restaurant. Just my opinion I guess! If you're looking for upscale or a more intimate atmosphere keep looking but trust me the food is worth going for. I'm making myself hungry just thinking about it!

A great place for local dining. The fry bread is excellent. We went with the senior dinners and were very satisfied.

So far been waiting one hour and still no food on our table... Decided to sit at the bar thinking maybe it would be quicker to get served since it's only a party of two. Service sucks! Tried to even make it easier and told our waiter we were ready to order and she says "I'll be right with you after". It's called multi tasking, take our order and when you got the time, input it when you get the chance. I know it's busy but don't give an excuse and say it's busy and you're the only one in the bar and they usually don't serve food in that area. I would write about the food but it hasn't showed up yet.

It's impossible to say anything about the food. After being told there was a half-hour wait, we joined the throng of others who remained unseated for hour and a half. A walk through the main room turned up a half-dozen empty tables, and several more waiting to be bussed. Customers who were seated seemed just as neglected; we heard many complaining about orders that hadn't arrived, and saw several more sitting at tables without even water having arrived. A guy drinking at the far end of the bar seemed to be the owner; servers were reporting various problem for him that were met with beratement before he dove back into his increasing alcoholic fog. Whatever his status, his utter lack of management seeped through the entire restaurant - a place that is also long overdue for a heavy steam cleaning. You would do better foraging for your dinner in the parking lot. Stay away.

Good ribs. The fry bread is amazing!!! I could eat that all day!! When I ordered mac n cheese from the kids menu I was hoping for some good homemade Mac but my son got what looked like kraft Mac n cheese. A little disappointing but my son didn't care and ate it anyways.

This is strictly for the food and maybe the service person at the counter because I only order take-out. I love love love this place. While this place is 20 minutes from Kalispell, I always go here to pick up an order of baby back ribs whenever I am in town. The baby back ribs are fall-off-the-bone ribs, and they are delicious. I also love their fry bread. I first tried their food many years ago when I was visiting my sister, and this has became a must-have item every year when I visit. I haven't seen a place in California that has fry bread, and I guess it's a good thing since I won't be able to get addicted to it or get sick and tired of it. I'm glad that the food hasn't changed for the past 5+ years and it's still as good as when I had it last. The fry bread is a bit less crunchy, but it is still just as good. We usually order a dozen of the bread every time. I am sure to get some again next year.

Two words: Fry bread. Two more: Honey butter. I have seen people lick it out of the container. Okay, it was me. You can even get a burger on fry bread. Fried chicken is amazing, juicy and moist. Try a little honey on that! Ribs-i love country style, hubbs loves baby backs. Also love the side salad with bleu cheese....yummm! Get it on the side or you will be swimming in it. Very fresh and you usually get your food fast. One time we had a bad experience and the table that came in after us got their food and were gone before we got ours. This is rare. Most of the servers have been there for years and love their job. The pizza is also excellent!

Delicious fried chicken and fried bread. Went there four times on our vacation.will go back next year.

Based on Yelp accolades, we tried them. Both ribs and brisket were excellent. "Trimmings" were both interesting and good. Pecan pie was outstanding. The accolades are deserved IMHO.

I came for dinner here for a birthday party. I ordered the BBQ pizza and everyone else in our party ordered ribs. The biggest complaint I heard was there was not enough BBQ sauce on the meat. My pizza was good but needed more BBQ sauce. Thankfully there was some barbecue sauce on the table that I just added to the pizza myself. Unfortunately the pizza was better the next day coming out of the refrigerator than it was in the restaurant. However I read the Yelp reviews before I entered the restaurant and heard high praises on the fry bread and honey butter. They were excellent! I gave this restaurant 3 stars because it's the first time I have eaten there and I would like to give it another try before I re-evaluate. Definitely a local hotspot.

I had the spare ribs and chicken plate. It was amazing! I could go on! The sauce was ok, but the ribs didn't need it, the star here is the meat! Sides were good too! I had a local beer. It all pales in comparison to those ribs !!! I will be dreaming about those for a long time. Family , no nonsense atmosphere. Busy place! I will return if given the chance. Oh and that fried bead stuff is excellent too!

We were staying at Lake McDonald lodge and one of the workers recommended we try the fry bread here, it was a little drive from the lodge but after 3 days of eating at the lodge it was a nice change. We got to the Backroom on Sunday at 3:50 we were afraid they weren't open but a line outside the door made us feel better, they opened at 4:00 for buffet, I don't do buffet so ordered broasted chicken and of course the fry bread. We had hiked a long ways that day, but it was one memorable meal. The chicken tender, moist, not greasy. The Frybread with honey butter like a big donut without sugar topping.

Love the Back Room! Take all our visitors there to enjoy good country ribs and chicken and Montana hospitality !
(5)Carter G.
We came here looking for some good Montana BBQ. We were not disappointed. The ribs were outstanding, but the baked beans and fry bread are the best I have ever had. The service was fast and very friendly. Definitely a place to visit.

Excellent place to eat. Was recommended by the car rental person. For a Saturday night it was really crowded but sat at bar. The bar tender was the hardest working person I have observed anywhere. The marinated broasted chicken was amazing. The baked bean and other side was awesome. This one the best places we eat on our entire trip.

We dropped in for dinner because it was recommended in the AAA guidebook. It was so good that we went back for take-out the next evening. Pluses: Great beers on tap, with a rotating IPA. Cheap, too! The baby back ribs were juicy and flavorful, the sides were fine. I liked the beans, which are more like Boston baked beans than cowboy beans. The broasted chicken was moist and flavorful. I loved the honey butter provided with the fry bread. Very reasonable prices. Fast for take-out at their take-out doorway. Minus: Everybody loves them, so they were packed at 6 pm on a Tuesday with families, etc. The interior is very casual. That said, we would happily dine here every night in the area -- takeout or eat-in. The wait staff are very friendly a

I'm a local, and you will find me here shoveling down the BBQ brisket, chicken, ribs and fry bread with honey butter. Ummmmm, good stuff! Not much to look at, so if you're looking for something a bit more upscale, then you're going to want to visit 3 Forks Grill up on Nucleus. Aside from it not being a fancy place to eat, it's still quality food. They also have a full bar, and the outdoor seating in the Summer really is just what you need. Service, as in time it takes to get your food after ordering, can be a little on the slow side from time to time, but it must be worth it, I keep returning for more. Everything on the menu is delicious, so don't be afraid to order anything. The brisket and ribs are a stand out though.

Some of the best bbq ever had. Service has great, place was clean. Will go back before we leave!,,

Our group headed to The Backroom right after completing the Gunsight Trail in Glacier National Park (~ 20 miles). Wow. The absolute perfect meal to eat after such a grueling hike. My friend recommended the country ribs, which were probably the best ribs I've ever had. In addition, their fried dough is just off the charts yummy. Highly recommended, great prices.

If I am visiting Columbia Falls, I always try to stop in at The Backroom. The pizza here is decent, the chicken here is very good, and the ribs are excellent. However, it is the Indian Fry Bread (served with butter and honey) that really keeps me coming back. They are served piping hot, and are the best example of this food I have ever enjoyed. The Backroom has a large amount of seating, but is also very popular, so you may have to wait during busy hours. On Sunday nights they do a buffet of Chicken, Ribs, Pizza, Pot Roast, mac & cheese, veggies and salad. (Oh yes, they also have the fry bread). The quality may not be quite what you get on other nights (the buffet pizza tends to suffer), but the sheer quantity is amazing.

Great local spot, was recommended to us by the proprietor of the cabin in which we were staying in Martin City. Brilliant BBQ fare, great beers on tap and a very locals-only feel. Country style ribs and the braised chicken were fantastic!

A few weeks ago we were vacationing in Montana with family. We needed a place to meet for dinner that would accommodate a large group, be family friendly, have good food and not too expensive. All this and on short notice too! This place did all that and more. We had to wait a bit for a table large enough to seat all of us. But they got us worked in sooner than expected on their lovely patio overlooking the mountains. We had just one server taking care of the 13 of us. I was blown away at how efficiently she managed to do that. She was totally on her game! The food was incredibly good. There wasn't a disappointed person in the bunch. The fry bread that comes with each meal was a delight. I ordered the broasted chicken which I had been craving for a long time. I hadn't as yet found a place that did the trick. The Backroom made up for all the other places I'd tried! Prices were very fair. It was a delightful dining experience overall. The only bummer is that I can't eat there again anytime soon. :(
